What if you could paint on the same surface as our flat Baltic Birch panels, which is high quality 1/8" or 1/4" Baltic Birch, and then choose the pieces you want to attach to our basswood cradles as a final artistic presentation? That is what we have done with our Basswood Panel Frames!
We know you love cradled panels as much as we do - they are fantastic to work with and are incredibly versatile. One of the drawbacks of working with any expensive substrate is the intimidation or pressure an artist can feel to produce a piece worthy of the panel itself. Our Basswood Panel Frames solve this issue, and feature the best of both worlds by using our same high quality panel that can be inserted into our basswood cradled frame. You can choose the pieces you want to cradle and save money with the pieces you do not. Pop them in and out to see what you like - even change the cradle depth from 1- 3/8" to 1-7/8" depending on your mood or what the piece needs artistically. You cannot do that with our regular cradled panels!
Once you are ready to cradle a panel you simply use some wood glue and place the glue in the rabbet of the frame place the panel in the frame and now you have a cradled panel! Let it dry overnight and you have the perfect cradled panel! Our frames are built out with a 1/4" rabbet. With a 1/8" panel you have a finished raised edge that actually serves as a lip for presentation and protection. Alternatively, you can choose to put in a 1/4" panel and have it flush mounted to the frame. The choice is yours and gives you so much more flexibility with your artwork
Our Basswood Panel Frames are manufactured right here in the U.S.A. We only use 1/8" Baltic Birch facing with no seams or patches on the panel and Wisconsin kiln dried select basswood is used for the frame cradling. Finely sanded and ready for your primer or for use as a craft panel. Get creative - paint them with acrylics, oils, or apply a varnish the choice is yours! Maybe a whitewash stain, or just cold wax medium to seal the wood. There are so many ways to finish these frames for the perfect look you want, at a great price.
There is no sealer or treatment applied to wood we use when our panels or basswood panel frames are constructed, and delivered to you. As such, as all natural wood products, they can warp regardless of cradling, and care should be given regarding the exposure of panels to variations in heat and humidity to try to mitigate the potential for warping. We do recommend priming the surface of the panel with at least one coat of an isolation primer, such as gesso or varnish, and we also recommend sealing the back of the panel with varnish. No current methodology can guarantee a wooden panel from warping, but sealing the front and back of your panel will absolutely insure a much better chance that a panel will not warp over time.

Please note: The cradles of our panels are constructed of basswood, which is a soft wood by nature. Small imperfections, divots, or "smushes" can occasionally occur during transit. A panel that is received with these slight imperfections will not be replaced. Smushes like the ones shown in the photo below can be easily returned to their original shape by leaving a damp sock or towel on the surface for approximately one hour, then removing and leaving to dry naturally.
Damages to the cradle (anything other than the face of the panel) that arise during shipment must be greater than a 2" x 2" square to be claimed as damage to be replaced. Damages that are smaller than this size (see photo below) can easily be chipped out, repaired with a small amount of wood filler and do not affect the painting surface in any way. Any damage to the cradle of the panel larger than 2" x 2" square please notify us with an email including photographs of the damage.
If the surface of the panel is damaged during transit it would be replaced once pictures have been forwarded and we have reviewed the damage claim.

Lastly, there is absolutely no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantee with our cradled wood panels. We do not guarantee that that our panels will remain warp free over the course of time, and using our panels is exclusively at your own risk. It is the responsibility of the client to do their due diligence and apply the best practices with the use of our cradled wooden panels. Rex Art will not be responsible for any claim of a panel warping beyond our 7 day window after delivery of the panel to advise of any warping, nor is there any recourse on our part for a panel claim beyond the 7 day period. If you have received a panel that is warped within our 7 day notification period please let us know and send us photos, and we will promptly replace or credit you.
