The GOLDEN Introductory Set for Professional Acrylic Gel Mediums and Molding Pastes offers the opportunity to experiment with a representative sampling of Gel Mediums. This unique blend of Extra Heavy Gel Gloss and Molding Paste creates a satiny, semi-opaque film that holds excellent peaks. Mixing with other acrylics gives better clarity of color than other molding pastes because of the lower level of opaque fillers. Due to the thickness and solid levels, this product retains tool marks better than the other Molding Pastes.

Used to create textured surfaces. Dries to a hard film. To increase its flexibility, mix in other GOLDEN Gels or mediums. Blends with GOLDEN Acrylic colors.

GOLDEN Clear Tar Gel is a 100% polymer emulsion colorless gel with an extremely resinous and stringy, tar-like consistency. It is a long rheology product that conceivably could be poured from a three-story building as one long strand!

Tar gel can be used to generate fine detailed lines by "dripping" it over painting surfaces. It can be blended with all GOLDEN Acrylic paints, offering a full range of colors with which to work.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

Creating a Tar-like Consistency:

Clear Tar Gel is very stringy and web-like. This "feel" is dictated by the type of thickener used during the paint-making process. This thickener gives the gel a long rheology, best described as a"syrupy" consistency, which allows for better leveling and less brush-strokes.

Blending with the Fluids (10% Fluid additions or less) works well to create colors that maintain the gel's tar-like consistency.

Use as a Medium:

Mix any quantity of Gel with GOLDEN Heavy Body, Matte, Fluid or High Load Acrylic colors. Tar Gel also blends easily with other GOLDEN Gels or Mediums. To thin, add water or GOLDEN Mediums. Note: Additions of other paint lines will increasingly lower the stringy nature of the Clear Tar Gel.

Fine lines can be laid onto a surface by simply dipping a palette knife or other tool into the Tar Gel/Paint mixture, then moving it quickly over the working surface. The line thickness can be controlled by the size of the tool and the speed with which it is moved.

Use as a Leveling Promoter:

GOLDEN Clear Tar Gel is also useful to increase an acrylic paint, gel or medium's leveling ability. Start with additions of 5% to another acrylic product, and increase as needed to achieve the desired consistency. Adding water to the Clear Tar Gel may be needed to allow some mixtures to level before drying.

Used to create textured surfaces. Dries to a hard film. To increase its flexibility, mix in other GOLDEN Gels or mediums. Blends with GOLDEN Acrylic colors.

Thicker consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors, while being similar to Extra-Heavy Gels. Offers higher gloss, lower shrinkage and dries to the touch quicker than most Gels. High Solid Gels are good for holding peaks. Blends with colors to make them feel more oil-like and increases retention of brushstrokes.

Thicker consistency than GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylic colors, while being similar to Extra-Heavy Gels. Dries to a matte finish. Offers lower shrinkage and dries to touch quicker than most Gels. Good for holding peaks. Blends with colors to make them feel more oil-like and increases retention of brushstrokes.

Crackle Paste is a water-based product formulated with styrene-acrylic copolymer emulsions, and may have a tendency to yellow.

This product has white, low-density solids that replace traditional fillers. Its unique ratio of specific solids and binders allows for a “controlled failure” to occur and the result is its tendency to crack. It has a consistency similar to cake icing, easily manipulated by a palette knife. Peaks will maintain their height and appearance. It is a harder film than the GOLDEN Light Molding Paste, yet still retains an absorbent surface.

Films dry to an opaque, matte finish to which subsequent layers of acrylic paint and mediums can be applied. Crackle Paste can be easily tinted with GOLDEN Heavy Body, Matte, High Load and Fluid Acrylic Paints.

It is imperative to test all aspects when working with GOLDEN Crackle Paste. This is a highly variable product, and it should NOT be assumed that it will perform exactly the same each time the product is used. Review this information carefully and conduct testing before using this product on artwork or decorative finishes.

Drying times greatly depend upon film thickness. Very thin films will dry to the touch in several hours but may not develop much cracking. Increasing film thickness will increase the tendency to crack and also the size of the cracks and platelets. Cracks can take several days to fully develop.

Do not force dry Crackle Paste, nor try to slow the drying by adding Retarder or other additives, as both conditions may interfere with the products ability to crack. Product should be allowed to cure between 65 degrees F and 75 degrees F, and under 75% Relative Humidity.

Crackle Paste cleans up with soap and water. Do not let products dry on tools. Keep tools wet while in use. Soak tools in soapy water to remove dried films.

Originally developed as a custom product for an artist whose large, abstract paintings were literally ripping the canvas from its stretcher bars. Mixtures made with this lightweight material allow an artist to work larger with less overall weight.

This product has a white, low-density filler that replaces the traditional marble dust. Aside from being much whiter in color than the other molding pastes, Light Molding Paste is approximately 67% lighter by weight! It has a consistency similar to cake icing, easily manipulated by a palette knife. Wonderfully high peaks maintain their height and appearance. The spongy flexibility opens up new possibilities.

Light Molding Paste's unique attributes allow an artist to use this product in new ways. It can be used simply as a lightweight filler for paints, as a white tinting medium or as a ground.

Use as a Low-Weight, Texturing Medium
For creating thick textures, Light Molding Paste is extremely useful. Large projects that normally would have great weight are easier to move and have lower shipping costs. Using a palette knife, stucco-like textures or frescoed walls are easily developed.

Use as a Modeling Compound
Dimensional objects can be covered with Light Molding Paste and sculpted while wet. After drying, the Molding Paste can be "chiseled" or carved with a razor knife, painted or further developed with additional layers of product.

Use as a Substrate
A 1/4-inch thick layer of Light Molding Paste applied to a gessoed canvas can allow an artist to manipulate while wet by using a stylus to draw into the paste. Work quickly, and continually wipe off the stylus with a damp rag. Once dry, this image can be painted or can be developed further with subsequent layers.

Use as a White Tinting Medium
The whiteness of this paste can be used to tint an acrylic paint. Add 10% color into the Light Molding Paste to start. Keep paints additions low in order to maintain low weight. Offers a different feel and look than using Titanium or Zinc Whites.

When used alone or mixed with other products, such as GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylics, it offers a hard yet flexible film. Capable of holding good peaks, Molding Paste is excellent for building surfaces or creating textures.

When used alone or mixed with other products, such as GOLDEN Heavy Body Acrylics, it offers a hard yet flexible film. Capable of holding good peaks, Molding Paste is excellent for building surfaces or creating textures.

This product is similar to the regular Molding Paste, but develops a much harder film. When dry, it can be carved with hand or power tools, and is readily sandable. It can be used on rigid supports like wood to add designs or texture to the object. Hard Molding Paste can also be mixed with acrylic paints or painted over.

Flexibility can be improved by blending with regular Molding Paste or Regular or Heavy Gel. To minimize the chance of cracking, avoid applying a single layer thicker than 1/4 inch. Multiple layers can be applied to achieve thicker overall applications; this actually facilitates faster drying.
